Kyorei

虚霊the capital of hollow spirits

In the grey years of the court, nobody in Kyorei mourns for long. The dead they forget do not leave. They drift into empty pavilions and wait, room after room, until the palace hums with them.

The court keeps onmyoji to clear them out with paper seals and ink. On a quiet night, one apprentice can clear a whole wing before the bell.

Kuro-nui is seventeen and runs the rooftops with her master's scroll on her back.

She stole it last winter. She has not read past the first sheet.

Draw the Seal

封を描くthree strokes, one spirit

Three strokes fill three slots, and the order decides who answers. Drag on the seal paper, or press 1 for Line, 2 for Curve, 3 for Dot. Enter wakes the seal.

Six orders call six spirits. Repeat a stroke and a wild spirit wakes up instead. It is small and it bites.

Ten seals on the door

十枚の札ten onmyoji, eight spirits

We sealed every onmyoji behind a slip of paper on the Moon Pavilion door. Break one to see who steps out and which spirit follows.

Four are ready for the playtest. The rest wait for later scrolls.

She snaps her fan shut, and three seals leave her sleeve before it closes.

“Keep your ghost. I only want the room back.”

Spirit: Crane 鶴. Ready for the playtest.

Tag in. Tag out.

交代taking turns

Two on each side, and only one of you on the bridge at a time. Your onmyoji and your shikigami trade places with a single press. The one off stage keeps working on a seal you can call in later.

Wake 目覚め

Break a seal halfway and the paper does not stay quiet. A wild spirit lands on the stage and bites whoever is nearest, you included. Strong players break a seal on purpose when the other side stands closer.

The empty shrine

空の社swept, unvisited

Priest Daigo still sweeps it. Mibu Tarō still guards it, mostly asleep. Something under the floor has started answering the bell.

The trailer hangs inside the shrine. Open it there.
